ROOM AVAILABILITY REDESIGN

Spring 2024, Product Designer, Event Cadence, Web UI/UX Design

Redesigned the Location Availability interface to streamline how schedulers view and manage room bookings across complex event timelines. The updated experience introduced clearer visual hierarchy, flexible grouping, and dynamic filtering to reduce cognitive load and support real-time decision-making. This project enhanced usability for both internal logistics teams and client-facing organizers.

PROBLEM

The original location availability interface was visually dense and difficult to scan. Key information like time, room, and session context was buried within static rows, making it hard for users to confidently assign spaces and identify scheduling conflicts. The UI lacked flexibility for sorting or filtering, which led to confusion during high-pressure event planning.

PROCESS

  • Audited the existing tool to identify usability gaps and information hierarchy issues
  • Studied real user workflows by observing how internal teams managed booking decisions
  • Introduced grouping and filtering logic (by room, team, session type, etc.)
  • Collaborated with engineering to explore component reuse and interaction feasibility
  • Iterated on design flows and visual styling to ensure clarity, contrast, and accessibility

  • SOLUTION

The redesigned interface simplifies room scheduling through modular components and smart filters. Color-coded groupings and a flexible time-based layout allow users to quickly assess availability at a glance. Filtering by team or session type further reduces visual noise, while subtle interactions like hover states and grouped key legends support a faster, more intuitive planning experience.
